NEW PEAK BODY NAME
FIRST NATIONS MEDIA AUSTRALIA
IRCA is proud to announce First Nations Media Australia as the new national peak body name for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander media, as voted by CONVERGE delegates. We are currently developing the plan for the new name transition and official launch.
As part of the transition we are calling for EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST for the First Nations Media Peak Body rebrand. If you are a First Nations Graphic Designer with the experience to take a leading role in the development of the visual messaging, please send a folio and short cover letter expressing your interest to comms@irca.net.au. Submissions close 5pm Wednesday 25 April 2018.
OUR MEDIA IS OUR IDENTITY
"I am from Darwin, and I am involved in our media industry through my work at Indigenous Remote Communication Association (IRCA). Our Media is our vehicle for sharing our culture and languages with everyone. We are able to tell our stories our way and in our own community. Aboriginal people have a lot to share as we have been here for 60,000 years."

Indigenous Focus Day (IFD) is a 1-day invitation-only event designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to share experiences and ideas, showcase digital applications and projects, and discuss strategies for improving Indigenous digital inclusion, particularly in remote Australia. We invite First Nations community organisations and people to register your interest in attending and contributing to this discussion. Email info@irca.net.au to register your interest.

IFD is hosted by IRCA and the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN). It will be held in Darwin on 6 June, followed by the 2-day Broadband for the Bush Forum 7-8 June. Check out the outcomes of the 2017 Indigenous Focus Day, where delegates put forward the policy proposal that Indigenous Digital Inclusion should become a Closing the Gap measure.

INDIGITUBE REDEVELOPMENT
indigiTUBE is now being redeveloped as the media platform by and for First Nations people, preserving traditional language and culture for future generations. We received funding from the Indigenous Languages and Arts Program and we are now in Stage One. indigiTUBE will profile and promote the diversity of our First Nations media content, including all content creators; radio, music, video, oral histories and other digital language resources. INDUSTRY NEWS
SOCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT (SROI) STUDY
The Social Return on Investment (SROI) study of First Nations media organisations undertaken by Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet has come up with an average return of 2.87:1. This means that for every $1 of investment in these organisations by government and other sources, there is $2.87 worth of community benefit. This is an excellent outcome, similar to the social return of the Ranger programs.
The study found that our organisations deliver a range of services and benefits in their communities beyond community broadcasting, including language and cultural programs, employment, training, video production, music development, festival and events, technical and IT services, archiving, building community cohesion and cultural safety, other services and support.
